Official World release of Tanks took place three years ago, on August 12, while Wargaming has been working in the field of game development for over 15 years. That is, the development of a “tank MMORPG” was preceded by the release of several very interesting projects among connoisseurs (DBA Online, Massive Assault and several of its sequels, Galactic Assault, Order of War) and the accumulation of invaluable experience.
And World of Tanks itself did not appear instantly. The idea was born back in 2008, and the release of the finished product, as I mentioned above, took place only two years later. In addition, a lot has changed since then, from the graphics, continuing with the cards, and ending with the balance of power. Even the format of extracting money through micropayments has evolved into a more humane system Free-to-Win. But first things first.
About the life of PC games on Mac
Before moving on to discussing World of Tanks directly, it should first be launched on a Mac, which we will now do.
There are two options for running PC games on Mac. One of them is the use of virtualization solutions. For example, Parallels Desktop.
Briefly described, this software package allows you to create the so-called virtual machine with almost any operating system inside, not only with Windows. You can install Linux, MS-Dos, and a different version of OS X. In fact, the application forms a separate computer in RAM with its own operating system.

The installation process is simple, everything is done for people. You launch the installation wizard, specify the path to the Windows image or to the optical drive with the installation disk, select the amount of disk space that you are ready to allocate for the second platform, and install the OS as if you were doing this not in a virtual machine environment, but on a regular PC . In the case of Windows 7 or Windows 8, the installation process consists of a few clicks. If you want the old Windows XP, you will have to use Parallels Desktop 7 (Microsoft does not support the old OS 8) and suffer a little with the installation, answering all sorts of questions in the process.
Minuses use of third-party products for virtualization are obvious. They are paid, but this is not the most a big problem. The main one is not very high performance of the virtual machine in games. In many ways, of course, it depends on the power of the Mac, but even when working with powerful models, the performance loss will be significant.
A plus, in addition to, in fact, the ability to play Windows games in the OS X environment, this is work simultaneously in two operating systems. Here you are playing World of Tanks, suddenly you need to check your mail - one click and you get to your native OS X desktop with all your personal applications.
Actually, in this mode, I conducted a small game test on a MacBook Pro 15" based on Core i5 and with 4 GB of RAM (one of the first models based on Core, that is, not the fastest).

I play WoT on a Mac from under a virtual machine. You can enable full screen mode if you wish.
What can I say - quite playable on medium-low settings. Depending on the card, the number of displayed frames per second ranged from 15 to 30. If the machine were more modern, then we could stop at this option. But if you want to get the most out of your computer, then it's better to use the second method.
The Mac hardware is not very different from that of the PC, if you do not take into account the design of the case, respectively, there should be no problems with direct installation of Windows. They are not there, since Apple itself has built tools for this into the OS, calling them boot camp. Finding it is easy - start typing the word " Assistant” in Spotlight and the system will prompt “ Boot Camp Assistant»:
Launch it and follow the prompts and instructions. The only point is that you will need a blank flash drive, on which the latest set of Boot Camp drivers will be downloaded from the Web to install them in Windows.
With an optical drive in your Mac, the Windows installation process within Boot Camp is simple, unpretentious, and looks like you're putting the system on a bare PC.
If there is none, then you will have to use either an external one or create an installation disk on a flash drive, which is more difficult, but quite doable, and in the case of Windows 8, there is a ready-made solution from Microsoft itself.
I also want to give a couple of tips on the amount of allocated disk space. If you install Windows XP, then 20 GB is enough (the system will take about 5 GB, plus space for software, games). For Windows 7 and newer, it's best to allocate at least 50 GB. This piece of Boot Camp will be plucked from the system drive and in OS X it will be only partially available.
In Boot Camp mode, the Windows computer was running at full capacity, and the game ran much better and faster on the experimental Mac than when using a virtual machine.
For gaming, this is by far the best option. The only downside is that you will have to restart your computer to switch between operating systems. But if you want, you can use the Boot Camp partition in Parallels Desktop and other virtualization systems and then the experience will be exactly the same as described above, but with reduced performance, which is critical for games.

It should be understood that WoT is not a simulator with the most complex controls and requires an understanding of the basic principles of the machine and its devices. If so, the game would never have acquired an audience of more than 70 million active users. Simplicity is what attracts people.
In fact, it is enough to download the free client from the official website, install, launch, register and start playing. No training is required. Drive your tank with a few buttons and a mouse, shoot your enemies and enjoy the process.
But gradually the player will notice that the tank has a crew, and the vehicle itself can be upgraded using funds and experience gained in battle. Rather, the experience is used to study new types of weapons, armor, combat vehicles, etc. In total, more than 300 models of armored vehicles are offered, in each of which you can pump a number of components separately, including the engine, chassis and cannon - a real expanse.
But the development of personal armored vehicles is not the only way to improve its combat qualities. The tankers themselves, which are part of the crew of a particular machine, can also be trained. As soon as a crew member has mastered the main specialty, he can acquire new skills (perks). There are basic ones, such as repair (speeds up the repair of damaged modules), camouflage, or firefighting, as well as specific ones - increasing the effectiveness of a ram, reducing the dispersion of guns on the move, reducing the resistance of weak and medium soils when the tank is moving, and a number of others. Well and reasonably developed team skills allow you to get a serious advantage in battle.
As for armored vehicles, they are divided into multiple classes: light, medium and heavy tanks, SAU (Self-propelled artillery mount) and tank destroyers (a specialized anti-tank version of the self-propelled guns). Each type of technology is imprisoned for certain actions and situations. That is, it cannot be said that a light tank will be worse than a heavy one, and a tank destroyer will be more advantageous than a medium tank. So, the self-propelled guns hide on the edge of the map and shoot through the entire battlefield. With one shot, such a machine is capable of destroying a heavy tank, but its own armor leaves much to be desired. It is helpless against any tank that gets close. By the way, during the fighting with the help of self-propelled guns, we see the battlefield from above:
The light tank is an excellent scout. Nimble and small, it easily sweeps past clumsy strands, illuminating them on the map for self-propelled guns and tank destroyers, and they will make a cutlet out of the enemy from afar.
In turn, medium and heavy tanks are the iron fist of the team, capable of pushing through the enemy defenses and rolling the enemy in a thin layer across the battlefield.
The goal is one - to destroy the enemy team, consisting of 15 combat units. You can also capture the base, or a certain territory on the map. But in general it's so-so Counter strike about tanks. Actually, this approach attracted people. You rock the car, the crew and fight, buy new tank, you get new sensations in battle, your capabilities grow, you want to quickly upgrade the new product to find out what it is capable of in the top version ... and so on by analogy. It's addictive, very addictive!

The game has enslaved the world, while it does not put pressure on the wallets of the players, which I can judge from the experience of my own son, who did not invest a penny in six months, but very seriously upgraded his fleet of equipment and learned to masterfully destroy opponents, even if the forces are not equal and the enemy flaunts a more pumped, special machine, bought for real money.
Moreover, the project continues to develop actively. What is it worth a major improvement in graphics in the game, after an update at the end of last year, as well as a significant refinement of the physical model. The game looks very nice, and the models of tanks, in principle, amaze with their detail and authenticity. Each piece of equipment was created with the support of historians and specialists in tank building.
Yes, on the battlefield, tanks that actually participated in battles and prototypes produced in the past in single copies can intersect. Yes, German, Russian and British vehicles can be on the same team. But after all, no one claims the authenticity of historical battles, which, by the way, take place on 36 large maps. Otherwise, what kind of drive can we talk about? But in terms of specifications- is one of the most realistic games of such kind.
