Victorian era with steampunk entourage game. A selection of the best games in the style of steampunk - let's give the park!!! Won't start Sir, You Are Being Hunted

In 2015, a craving for the Victorian style woke up among game developers around the world. There have been two games set in this era: Bloodborne and The Order 1886, Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be released soon, and Assassins Creed Unity had to do with her. There have been games like this before...

The Victorian era is the period of the reign of Queen Victoria, which lasted from 1837 to 1901, which became the most important phenomenon in the history of England and influenced the whole world. It included the development of capitalism, the industrial revolution, the division of Africa, the Crimean War, the coup d'etat in France, the mass construction of railways and the strongest class inequality.

In popular culture, it is almost always accompanied by steampunk, although undeservedly - the style of steampunk itself appeared many years after the end of this era. Apparently, its inherent gloom and the dominance of dark colors everywhere and everywhere create the most captivating atmosphere and attract the most extensive audience.

If you start talking about games dedicated to that era, then you should start with the best caricature of it

There is a dog here, 12 years before the worst part of CoD, it was much more sense

It is a caricature that shows all the vices of that time, all the skeletons in the closet and in general everything that is hidden behind a beautiful cover.

The action takes place in Arcanum - a fictional mainland, on the planet earth (which is clearly hinted at by one of the dialogues). The mainland is divided into three countries (each of which has only 3-4 cities) and a huge land of elves. Main character(or villain) was the sole survivor of the Zephyr Airship crash. Immediately after he comes to his senses, he is pulled into saving the world. Or not salvation, you can take the path of a villain and pursue your goals, but in the end, the game will bring you exactly to what is predetermined for you from above. The number of plot moves is huge, as is the number of options for character development and the choice of worldview. The game is non-linear and this non-linearity is one of the main positive features of the game

And the second feature is the already mentioned era. As mentioned above, the game shows everything that was in the Victorian era, turning gameplay conventions into elements of the game world. For example, race. Usually, the choice between an elf, a dwarf or an orc is a very big convention, depending only on appearance. Here, each race implies a layer of that same society. Elves are aristocrats, dwarfs are businessmen, orcs are an analogue of blacks, capable only of hard work or robbery robberies, and people here are a passive mass that does not affect anything. You understand that you should choose a race, taking into account all this. It also shows English snobbery, the struggle of religion with technological progress and class inequality.

From the gameplay side, these are the first two fallouts without a post-apocalypse - the key figures in development are the same

There is almost no trace of the former fairy tale, only harsh Victorian realities

After Arcanum, it's worth remembering another Victorian caricature drawn a decade later in France. Fable 3 is about a coup d'état in Albion, a fictional country undergoing a technological revolution. At the center of the conflict are the Game of Thrones of two brothers. One of them is a sinister tyrant who terrorizes his subjects. His brother rebels against him, but why - we decide. Of course, he can bring goodness and peace to Albion, wanting to create a branch of heaven on earth in it, or maybe he can be driven by slightly different feelings. The moral qualities of the hero are formed by us ourselves, from the first minutes of the game, by our actions and the constant “difficult moral choice”. This gives us a huge non-linearity, given that in the second half of the game we ourselves become a monarch, with all the pluses and minuses that follow from this. Among them is the management of the country. The policy here is implemented, albeit in a simplified form, but it is there, there is a right to do anything without fear of consequences.

On the technical side, this is still the same Fable, partially mixed with Arcanum, but more cartoony, funny and positive. There are a lot of parodies of modern culture and society, as well as voice acting from Hollywood stars and beautiful CG videos

The bloody knife in Alice's hands is only a small part of what the once childish and kind fairy tale has become.

Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, in the capable hands of Americana McGee turns into a creepy horror movie with violence and schizophrenia. The Victorian style is presented here in deliberately gloomy, almost black and white, noir tones, as the opposite of Alice's sick psyche, in which everything blooms and smells. Alice has remained stoned on her head, a sick psychopath, traveling through her fantasies and going crazy even more (her psyche replaces hit points). She lives in an orphanage and puzzles over the cause of the fire that killed her parents in 1863. After 12 years, she and the doctor decide on a dubious experiment - with the help of hypnosis, she returns to the day of the fire and tries to find out the cause of the disaster. She does not find the reason, and even ends up in Wonderland, and returning to real world-begins to see strange things

From this list, this game is the most arcade. This is a slasher, mostly done in 2.5d graphics. American McGee filled the game with psychedelic motives, depression, violence and cruelty, but also left the motives of the same Carroll fairy tale. Although, children should not play it

Striders and Big Ben included

One of best games 2011. The action takes place in fictional world, made in the style of steampunk and the Victorian era. The protagonist named Corvo, close to the Empress, was in the center of a coup d'état. He is unfairly accused of overthrowing the government and outlawed. Now he has to prove his non-involvement in the murders, but how - decide for yourself. Implemented a good combat system and very high quality stealth. The main feature of the game is the living world. Kill people - they are eaten by rats, spreading the plague throughout the city. The more corpses - the more rats, plague and, accordingly, zombies on the streets. In other aspects of the game, the "liveness" of what is happening is also felt. Walk through the city and see how the soldiers throw the corpses into the water, which remain after your adventures. There are also beautiful finishing moves and magic. Yes, what am I saying? Everyone knows this game.

1998 hooded assassin. It seems that Ubisoft can be blamed for plagiarism

A thief simulator released in the early 2000s. Dishonored, by the way, is partially inspired by this game. The action takes place in an unnamed city, and the main character is a noble thief. The game features wildly complex gameplay, non-killable enemies and real scary zombies. Last year, a not-so-successful remake was released, which still looks quite good if you perceive it as a separate game.

Perhaps the most positive game in the collection. At least outwardly

So we got to this game, the plot of which is very difficult to formulate. So - a private detective is assigned to save a girl in a certain city. The hero saves her, hides from the city authorities pursuing him in an airship, the airship is captured, and the hero receives a new order. In the course of the action, he will visit the city of Columbia, travel through various historical eras, but more attention is paid to the Victorian era and the Battle of Wounded Knee, in 1890. There's also steampunk

A game distinguished by good graphics and... everything

A six-hour attraction that is nothing like a game, but with good graphics and storyline. The plot tells about the knights of the round table, exterminating all evil spirits and eating black water, thanks to which they live for centuries. The game, though thundered in full, but there is nothing to talk about it. One-button gameplay and monotony, but graphics and Victorian style

This is how the Japanese imagine Victorian London

The complete opposite of the previous game. A Japanese creation from the authors of the unforgettable Dark Souls, which has acquired beautiful graphics, even more interesting gameplay and an even more elaborate atmosphere. If about dark souls first of all they say that it's just very difficult game, then Bloodborne is also a stylish meat grinder with vile creatures and really creepy environments. The plot here is very simple - in a certain city similar to London, fiends have crawled out to freedom, devouring people with appetite. This was taken advantage of by the evil spirits hunters, who decided to arrange a safari in the city. We will have to play one of these hunters

This game promises to be the most revolutionary in the series since the second part

The Assassins and the Templars are getting closer and closer to modern times. Everyone has already forgotten that once, this series told about the crusades and claimed to be historic. It's funny to remember this now, but it is Syndicate that can restore faith in the series. The game will tell us about Victorian London, which was captured by the Templars. Two Assassins stood up to fight them - a beautiful sister and a charismatic brother, who, according to all the canons of the era, had a cone and a cane with him. Together, they unite the street gangs of foggy Albion under their command to fight evil. Perhaps this game will be the biggest breakthrough in the series, after the second part

We've put together a list of London games for PC that will put one of Europe's most influential cities in a new light, and some of them will put you in the role of builder of the British capital.

London is not just one of the oldest European capitals, it is a city whose streets keep memories of Roman and Scandinavian invaders, a city where the greatest figures of science and art lived and worked, a city where Sherlock Holmes investigated and killed Jack on the pages of books -The Ripper, a city where puritanism and stiffness are intertwined with extravagance and rebellious spirit.

This selection includes games of different genres, the plot of which is somehow connected with the British capital, and the action takes place in different eras - from games about London in the 19th century to post-apocalyptic stories.

12 Cities in Motion

Which one of us, standing at the bus stop public transport during rush hour, did you think that it was time for the city authorities to start taking a more responsible attitude to organizing the transportation of passengers? Cities in Motion is an excellent transportation simulation game in which the player can take on the role of the head of a company that builds and maintains transportation networks. Everything related to passenger transportation is in his power: vehicle models, work schedule, route, drivers' salaries, etc.

12 add-ons were released for the game, with each of which new cities, models, buses, trams, subways and helicopters, new modes of transport and scenarios appeared in Cities in Motion. With DLC London, it became possible to manage transportation in the British capital, you can download it separately on Steam.

11. Hellgate: London

Hellgate: London is a post-apocalyptic action RPG that tells scary story about the future of London. The plot of the game takes place in 2038, when hordes of demons poured into the city from the very depths of hell after the opening of the portal. Those who are lucky enough to survive, including you, will have to enter into an unequal battle.

To do this, you have to join one of three factions: the Order of the Templars, the Kabbalists, passionate about the occult sciences, or the Hunters - experienced warriors who deal with evil spirits with the help of the latest weapons.

Where to buy: The game has been withdrawn from official digital services.

9. Killing Floor

Killing Floor is a shooter that was originally planned as a free modification to Unreal Tournament 2004, but later the developers also released a commercial version.

Our hero is one of the survivors of the attacks of the army of clones, now he will have to constantly fight not for life, but for death. It all started with the fact that the government wanted to create ideal soldiers. One scientist managed to improve human performance, he learned to clone people and completely control their will, like a voodoo magician controls his zombies. As you know, power corrupts, and the brilliant scientist decided to take over the whole country.

8.Vampyr

Now you have a lot of things to do: find out what happened to you and why, get your own food, do quests and continue to treat the sick, because there is no one else. Interestingly, the more a vampire knows about his victim, the more you can drink from it, so you have to delve into the dirty linen of Londoners. And do not forget that you are not the only dangerous creature on the streets at night.

6. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes series

Although the most famous Englishman is just a figment of the writer's imagination, he managed to influence world culture much more than most real people.

Main series The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes from the Ukrainian studio Frogwares has eight games, each of which is a separate chapter in the life of the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his faithful friend and assistant Dr. Watson, who investigate the terrible crimes that are happening on the streets of decent old London.

5 Assassin's Creed Syndicate

We continue the week of steampunk in the World of Fantasy. Today we will talk about the ten most bright games, the action of which takes place in the world of steam ... and not only.

Fantasy steampunk Arcanum is an analogue of the brutal fantasy cyberpunk Shadowrun: the same elves and orcs, only on steam locomotives. True, relations between supporters of magic and technology are tense here. The technician will not be allowed into the city of magicians, and the seller of nails will throw after the sorcerer: "You stink of magic." Go figure out what skills are needed, what to give preference to - a Gatling machine gun, steam armor and a mechanical spider or a magical teleporter?

In addition to an interesting role-playing system and a unique world, Arcanum has an exciting story with a lot of unexpected twists and turns. There are few games where you can defeat the world's evil simply by talking to it.

The classics of the quest genre at first glance does not resemble steampunk. The player goes on a journey with a charming girl, and sees elements of retro fantasy much later. The creator of the game, Benoit Sokal, sensibly reasoned that the harmony of the game world is more important than steampunk in every corner. Such beautiful landscapes and impressive architecture are rarely seen in games. In addition to attention to detail, Syberia impresses with puzzles and a great story. It was so deep and the characters so charismatic that Sokal had to make a sequel. This picture lacked the final strokes.

By the way: The first and second parts were re-released for mobile devices last year. In Russian.

Thief

Thief is considered the best thief game series and the benchmark of the stealth genre. This game was inspired by the creation of the "Chronicles of Siala", although the writer rests on the resemblance of the protagonist not to the game Garrett the thief, but to the detective from the books of Glen Cook. Well, in the context of steampunk, this series is distinguished by a radical mixture of magic and technology. In the City, you can find telepathic assassins, zombies or sewer druids, as well as scout robots or a quasi-religious sect of mechanics who want to reshape the world in the glory of metal. In this strange time, combining the features of the late Middle Ages and the Victorian era, Garrett had to turn his thieving deeds.

The Final Fantasy series has many entries, but only a few of them are considered JRPG standards to this day. Episode VI is one of them. It came out a long time ago, in 1994, so it does not impress with fashionable graphics, but with its scale, artsy steampunk design and huge duration, this is not a problem. The plot at first glance is stereotyped and comes down to the struggle of a handful of heroes with a despotic empire, but this is an illusion. The story and characters are very good, and the Japanese steampunk variation redeems all shortcomings. In addition, there are plenty of activities for the player. One battle with luxuriously drawn bosses will take dozens of hours.

The strategy genre indulges steampunk connoisseurs rarely, but aptly. The debut game of the Big Huge Games studio fired all the guns at once. In its bizarre world, steam tanks, robots and helicopters a la da Vinci coexist harmoniously with Indian mythology and Arabic architecture, and the gameplay captivates with subtle nuances and tricks. Say, talented commanders can win over to their side former enemies. Borrowing some of the mechanics of Civilization, the developers supplemented them with their own, so there is something for virtual strategists to do here.

This smart tactical role-playing game in the world of dieselpunk Europe in 1935, it looks like a watercolor painting come to life. At the heart of the game alternative version World War II, so it's easy to guess who the Imperial Alliance, the Atlantic Federation and the small but proud Gaul are. Valkyrie Chronicles has a solid style, cute characters and a good story, but the main thing is the gameplay. Classic battles like the Normandy landings alternate with real puzzles. A duel with a giant tank and an assault on a "land battleship" - only brilliant tacticians can do this.

Saying that "revenge is served cold," they mean dirty tricks in their right mind, and not from a hot heart. In the city of Machinarium, there is no problem with this: it is inhabited by robots, and they have a hard time with emotions. But perseverance does not hold, which we see in the example of the robot Josef, which the offenders threw into the landfill as scrap metal. In this quest, the little robot will have a long way to justice, rescue a metal girlfriend and meet colorful inhabitants of the steampunk world. In addition to an interesting design and a special atmosphere, "Machinarium" is distinguished by the absence of dialogues, which are replaced by "clouds of thoughts".

In the first two parts of Bioshock, Ken Levin embodied many interesting ideas - for example, the thesis of Ayn Rand's book Atlas Shrugged. But that was just a warm up Bioshock Infinite- a killer cocktail of steampunk, time travel, scientifically explained magic and drama. The protagonist finds himself in a huge flying city full of airships, gears, machine guns and mechanical George Washingtons with machine guns. Local mysteries are twisted into such a tricky plot with time loops and parallel worlds that Interstellar and Inception will seem like children's fairy tales. Add to that great design, great music, and poignant themes like racism and eugenics. It's no surprise that Bioshock Infinite was MirF's Game of the Year 2013.

The Order: 1886

This project has caused more scandals than all the other games in our top combined. Plot blunders, insane price, short duration - the game was scolded for a lot. However, in terms of visual style, atmosphere and the very idea, it is magnificent. Alternative England with monsters, steam and Knights of the Round Table, armed with Tesla guns, we have not met yet. In addition, The Order pleases the player with a lot of references and allows you to take a fresh look at many historical figures like the Marquis Lafayette. It is a pity that the developers built not a palace on such a foundation, but just a beautiful layout.

Steampunk worlds can be dark, but Dishonored's Dunwall stands out from the crowd. The slums, where poverty reigns, dark witchcraft and rats scurry about, contrast sharply with monumental architecture and guards in mechanical armor. Characters to match the world: decent in appearance and flaunting the fruits of progress, but in reality they are dangerous and vile, like the dirty waters of the Thames near factories. The main character can become the same or different: his path, like the development of the city, is determined by the player. If you don't kill unnecessarily, Dunwall flourishes. You cut everyone - the city dies in terrible agony, like the victims of your tame rats.

Long winter evenings are coming, and Victorian games will help brighten them up, which, in fact, are not so different from ours. Charades and burimes, musical chairs and "oranges and lemons" (the same stream) - we probably played all this with you. But there are also more original versions of already familiar games. They'd be perfect for an authentic Victorian party *winks miss_candell *, and for classes with schoolchildren or students.

Charades were sung by Charlotte Brontë in Jen Eyre. Playing charades, the Victorians staged real theatrical performances with costumes. For charades, both pantomimes and mini-plays with words were suitable, so long as they did not repeat the encrypted word. Usually the word was broken into two parts and beat each separately (as in "Jen Eyre"), and then the whole word was depicted. The purpose of the charade was not to explain the word as clearly as possible, but, on the contrary, to prolong the pleasure, so that the players tried to fool the audience for longer.

Crossdresser Charades

More charades. Unfortunately, I don't know the words.

In Cassell's 1882 game collections, the following suitable words for charades are given. I highly recommend trying them, although some, it seems to me, do not divide in two (although I may lack imagination).

Charades with proverbs
Players are divided into actors and spectators, each actor chooses a proverb and without words depicts it in front of the audience. (It seems to me that it will be interesting to play both Russian proverbs, as well as English proverbs as a complicated version).

Charades with rhymes
The player gets the word, but he does not beat him, but the words that rhyme with him. For example, if it was the word flow (stream), you can row (row), mow (mow), etc.

The blind man's buff, a favorite pastime of the past, also had many variants.

lit candle
A lit candle is placed on the table. The player is blindfolded, spun three times, after which he must find and blow out the candle. Well, or knock down a table, set fire to the carpet and make the holiday truly memorable.

Guess the eyes
This game requires a curtain for the players to enter. Because of the curtain, only their eyes are visible, by which the driver must guess the player.

Blinds with a stick
The driver is blindfolded and given a stick in his hands. The rest of the players dance around him to the music. When the music suddenly stops, the driver pokes someone with a stick. The victim grabs the end of the stick. Now the driver needs to guess who he hit. This is done as follows - he makes various funny sounds, the cries of animals or street vendors. The one he hit must repeat these sounds, but changing his voice. If the driver recognizes him anyway, they switch places.

Blindfolds with shadows
One side of the room is covered with a sheet, although a white wall will do. A bright lamp is placed at some distance from it. The player sits between the lamp and the sheet. Other players pass behind him, and from the shadow that has fallen on the sheet, the driver must guess who is standing behind him.

Games with words were reminiscent of those that we all play since childhood - for example, to make many short words from a long word. Another way is to take a name famous person and make a few words out of it or, conversely, first make up a few words, and then invite other players to guess the encrypted celebrity. Don't google anything, try to decipher the following names :)
We lads get on (surname and initials)
side rail
Pale Noon
Happened?

adjectives
All players are given pieces of paper on which they need to write 5-6 adjectives. Meanwhile, the facilitator writes a short story with lots of nouns or chooses a suitable passage from a book. Then he collects the sheets and reads the passage aloud, adding adjectives from the sheet to each noun or replacing the adjectives in the passage with adjectives from the sheet.

cupid flies
Adverb game. Players sit in a circle. One of them says to a neighbor: "Cupid is flying." "How does he fly?" says neighbor. The first player names an adverb starting with the letter "a" (for example, ambitious or adventurous). Then all the players in a circle must name the adverb with the letter "a". The same continues until the alphabet runs out of letters. For those who have nothing to say, they take a forfeit. Another version of the game is "Minister's Cat", only here the question is asked "What is the minister's cat?", and the players name adjectives starting with the same letter.

apprentice son
This comparatively easy game is played like this:
Tom: "I apprenticed my son to a grocer and the first thing he sold started with a 'k'.
Nelly: Coffee?
Tom: No.
Sam: Cocoa?
Tom: No.
Edith: Cayenne pepper?
Tom: Yes.
Edith then asks the same question to another player. If you know the Victorian professions, then you can generally have fun.

Our Granny doesn't like tea
Unfortunately, the pun disappears in the translation - players must name food that does not contain the letter "t" (i.e. "tee"). I think it's great for playing in a language class.

Traveler's alphabet
Another excellent game for the language class. One of the players says "I'm going to Amsterdam" go to another city on "a". "What will you do there?" asks the neighbor. In his answer, the player must use nouns and verbs starting with "a". The next player gets "b", and so on.

gardeners
The language game is more difficult, but for English learners, that's it. Each player says "I planted a 'person/animal/thing' and a 'plant name' grew." Both words must be related. Here's what it looks like in practice.

Effects
Many of us have been helped to pass the time in a boring lecture by a game in which players answer questions, write answers on a piece of paper, fold it, pass it around, answer a new question. In Cassell's version, the questions are: “Two or three adjectives. The name of the gentleman. Two or three more adjectives. The name of the lady. Where did they meet? What did he give her? What did he say to her? What did she say to him? What were the consequences? What did the world think about it? (The last two questions are so Victorian they're just cute!)

Menagerie
Each player receives a sheet of paper, conditionally divided into three parts. At the top, he draws the head of a person or animal. Then this part is folded over and the sheets are passed around, the players draw the torso, fold the sheet, pass around and draw the legs / paws. In the end, look what happened. (I suggest an option for fashion lovers - instead of animals, draw people in costumes by era, so that in the end you get a funny fusion).

Reviews
Editor's Choice! I would love to play this game, and, it seems to me, it is feasible even online. A variant of games in which a phrase is written on a piece of paper is wrapped and passed around in a circle. The difference is that here you need to write an advertisement for the book, so the structure is appropriate. At the top of the sheet, the title of the book, real or imaginary, is written in large letters. The sheet is folded, passed to a neighbor. Then the subtitle of the book is written, which was quite popular in the 18th century. Again in a circle. Now the author is written, then some quotation from the book or a poetic epigraph. Then a few brief reviews from the newspapers. The beauty of the game is that none of the players knows what the neighbor wrote. The output is something like this.

Clairvoyant

The game is a mockery of players who do not read Banshee and therefore are unfamiliar with the rules. One of the players leaves the room, the other asks him from behind the closed door:
-Do you remember the interior of the room well?
-Yes.
-Do you remember the color of the upholstery on the chairs?
-Yes.
-And a vase of flowers?
-Yes.
- Old china in the sideboard?
-Yes.
- Stuffed birds?
-Yes.
-Then tell me what object I'm touching?
-Vase with flowers.
Everything is simple - only in front of a vase with flowers the player added "a". In principle, one can think of another symbol and how to puzzle beginners.

Barnyard
Another kind of harassment :) The host announces that he will whisper an animal in each player's ear, which he must imitate when the signal sounds. Allegedly, all the players will portray the barnyard and at the same time mumble and grunt. In fact, the host whispers "donkey" or "pig" to only one player, and whispers to the others to be silent. So, on a signal, only one player starts to roar or grunt, to the great pleasure of all the others.

Nose pinch
Players in a circle pinch each other on the nose and ask funny questions. The goal of the game is to make the neighbor laugh and lose the phantom. Particularly cunning players smear their fingers with soot to laugh at their neighbors, although they themselves can get their nose dirty with the same probability.

pad
A pillow is placed in the center of the room. The players are divided into two teams, then both teams join hands and dance around the pillow. Suddenly, one of the teams tugs on the other, so that someone from that team hits the pad. The one who hurts her is out of the game, and the phantom is taken from him. Because of the magnificent dresses, the ladies find themselves at a disadvantage, and there was only one way out of it - to fight desperately, with all their might.

Flying
Players sit in a circle and put their right hand on their left. The facilitator begins a story in which he mentions everything that can fly (birds, insects, etc.), and at each such mention, the players must raise their right hand and wave in the air. The one who gapes loses the phantom. And the leader, of course, should try to confuse the players and select more forfeits.

Claps and hisses
The gentlemen leave the hall, and the ladies sit down so that there is free space nearby. They tell each other who they want to see next to them. The task of the gentleman is to guess which lady wants to see him next to him. If he sits in the right place, the rest of the ladies clap, if he guesses wrong, they hiss loudly, and in a hurry he has to look for a new place.

Russian gossip (Russian scandal)
Yes, that's what the game "deaf phone" was called in Victorian England. True, instead of one word, which the players quickly whisper to each other, solid Englishmen used a whole sentence, anecdote or a brief history. The last player said it out loud, and everyone laughed at the modified version. The name is symbolic, especially if you think about how gossip spreads in the modern world and what details it acquires.

hot cockles
Mega-popular game of the past centuries (in Russian translation, it seems, "bug"). The player is blindfolded, he kneels in front of a chair, as if in front of a block, or he puts his head on the knees of someone who is sitting on a chair. He puts his hand palm up on his back, well, or lower back. The other players slap him on the arm and he has to guess who hit him. I can't even imagine how this can be done in principle. In some collections of games, participants are advised not to overdo it and beat more gently, otherwise, as if the case did not end with self-mutilation.

Playing on the canvas of Fragonard. More illustrations at oberega

At the very end of the evening, the presenter took the collected forfeits one by one and assigned some tricky task to the losers. Surprisingly, many of these tasks involved kissing. For example:
-Kiss the lady of the heart so that no one would guess about it. Solution: you need to kiss all the women, and among them the beloved will turn out to be just right.
-Kneel before the most intelligent, bow to the most beautiful, kiss the one you love. (In principle, you can do all this before one).
- Kiss the candlestick. Solution: ask the girl to hold the candle and kiss the girl herself.
Those Victorians weren't so prim, especially after a couple of glasses of Christmas punch.

Fant - everyone kisses the girls, and the loser kisses the door.

The main trend of video games in 2015 is already obvious: a variety of studios have decided to take on the Victorian era. The Order: 1886, bloodborne Both of these AAA projects take place in London. The industrial revolution gaining momentum, the emergence of a society of gentlemen, terrible stories about Jack the Ripper and, of course, an unforgettable architectural style - games of various genres can be made in such a setting. It is all the more surprising that so far not so many projects have been devoted entirely to London. But each of them came out utterly colorful and stylish. Coincidence? I don't think.

Nightmare Creatures (1998)

In 1666, fanatics from the Brotherhood of Hekate want to turn the whole world into one big demon-worshipping cult. Choosing London as their first target, the members of the Brotherhood tried to create an elixir that would grant any cultist superhuman powers. It turned out not quite what was needed - the “brothers” who drank the potion began to mutate and eventually turned into terrible monsters. The first attempt to use mutants as an army leads to the burning of the headquarters of the brotherhood, and subsequently to the Great Fire in London.

According to the plot of the plot, you might think that the game was a horror. But this is not entirely true: the player did not need to hide in a panic from any threat - the main characters quite deftly wielded both a sword and a firearm, so the gameplay can be safely attributed to the usual action, albeit with a gloomy atmosphere. Well, where without mysticism - the whole plot revolved around the investigation of entries from the diary of a mad scientist from the Brotherhood.

The first game in the series was released on PC, PlayStation and Nintendo 64.

Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 (1999)

London, 1969 was the first addition in history GTA and the first addon released on the original PlayStation. She was nothing particularly interesting - just a set of missions in London, plus new cars. But unlike other games in the series, where the cities were fictional, the local London was real. Well, the colors Rockstar added with numerous pop culture references - Bond characters, lines like "You're brown bread!" instead of the usual "Wasted" and stuff like that.

Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969 was released on MS-DOS, Windows and PlayStation.

Sim City 3000 (1999)

The most famous urban planning series also did not bypass the capital of England. In 3000, you could choose London and develop it, eventually creating a futuristic version of the city, or bankrupt the city completely. And you can use the thematic set when creating your own little town from scratch. Feel like the mayor of this beautiful metropolis, reshape it to your liking or wreak havoc and destruction with the help of god mode - that's how much you could do in this game.

You can now play SimCity 3000 on PC, Mac, Linux and even iOS.

Medievil 2 (2000)

World Medievil remembered immediately: talking skeletons, magic, chivalry and cartoonish, but at the same time very gothic style. In the second part, Sir Daniel Fortascu again became the protagonist, who had already managed to receive the title of hero for his exploits. 500 years after defeating the sorcerer Zakron, Daniel woke up in the British Museum. In the courtyard of the XIX century, and the world is in danger again - a certain Lord Paltron found a book of black magic and decided, they say, why not take over the world. Well, everything would not be so fun if the evil Lord did not have a dozen or two minions.

Medievil 2- the usual action-platformer for that time. The player will have to run around the locations, disassemble (in the literal sense) opponents to the bones, solve simple puzzles and win. And all this under colorful scenery and atmospheric musical accompaniment.

Medievil 2 was and remains exclusive to the original PlayStation.

The Getaway (2002)

The Getaway is a third-person vehicular sandbox action game, most notable for the fact that the game was postponed by as much as 27 months. All for the sake of recreating London with the greatest possible detail at that time. Otherwise, nothing remarkable: the game turned out to be the purest clone GTA, with the same mechanics and a similar story about the relationship of criminal gangs on the streets.

The game was released exclusively for the PlayStation 2.

Clock Tower 3 (2003)

How the developers love to use the streets of London in a sinister and even frightening manner! Clock Tower 3 is another example of this.

Alyssa Hamilton, a 14-year-old boarding school student, receives a letter from Nancy, the girl's mother. In the letter, mother asks the heroine to hide, hmm, for a year. The girl (like, probably, any normal person in such a situation) ignores the request and does not comply, deciding to go home. Next - the disappearance of the mother, mysticism and, attention, time travel. The main events of the plot take place in London during the Second World War.

If you like horror games based on puzzles and stealth, and even from Japanese developers, then this game will definitely suit you.

Clock Tower 3 is out exclusively on PlayStation 2.

Hellgate: London (2007)

The year is 2038, London is in ruins, chaos and death reigns everywhere. All because the powers of the demons broke through open portal and captured the city, driving the few survivors underground and slaughtering the rest. The situation is hopeless, but the human race does not give up.

Players had to unite in groups to clear out the invaders, choosing one of the three available classes: Templar, Kabbalist, or Hunter. Game process looked like a familiar first or third person shooter, supplemented role system pumping skills a la Diablo. Maps were generated randomly. Alas, the game turned out to be a failure - the servers were closed a year and a half after its release. You can, of course, run in single player mode, but this activity will almost certainly seem unbearably boring.

The game was only released on PC.

ZombiU (2012)

Ubisoft knows how to recreate cities beautifully and in detail, conveying the spirit of everyday life in them. But the words " virtual tour» are valid only for the series Assassin's Creed but not for ZombiU. This story about a nameless survivor who wakes up in London after the outbreak of a zombie virus will hardly be remembered by you as a setting. However, if a desire suddenly arises to shred a hundred or two decaying corpses somewhere in the vicinity of the Tower, there will be no other such opportunity. Perhaps it's for the best.

The game was released exclusively on Wii U.

(2015)

Few people know about the existence of a browser game Fall London, the main charm of which is the Victorian setting with an admixture of gothic style and steampunk elements. Despite this, the developer studio released a spin-off in this universe, a roguelike called . This is an example of a game that is not a sin to buy in Early Access: you have to take the helm of the ship and explore the vast expanses of the local dark sea (called zea). The main thing is to explore as much as possible and survive at the same time, because, as fans of the genre know, death is permanent here. The “face” of the game is made by its atmosphere: feelings of loneliness, craving for discoveries, anxiety, and sometimes fear are perfectly served here.

The game was released on PC via Steam.
