Developing relationships with NPCs. Items for rent

In Black Desert Online there is a friendship system with NPCs. Each NPC has "Friendship Points", and the higher their scale, the more friendly the NPCs are to you. While communicating with an NPC, the friendship between you and this NPC increases. When you interact with an NPC, there will most often be 2 functions in the interaction window - Dialogue "R" and Greeting "F5". But some NPCs will have another function, F6 Theft. But let's talk about everything step by step.

In order to get the location of the NPC, you need to chat with him.

Basics of communication with NPCs

By clicking the NPC on the Dialogue function, a window will open. Here you can see the scale of friendship points, the total amount of friendship received with this NPC, the chat button, and the knowledge required to communicate with this NPC.

Preparing to Communicate

So, on the left, in a green frame, the scale of friendship with the NPC is displayed. This bar is limitless, even when it shows that it is full. On it you see the total number of friendship points with the NPC. In addition, different icons are often displayed near the scale. If you hover over them, you will see that it can be a quest, knowledge, buff, shop. That is, in order for you, for example, to open a friendship store, you will need to fill 501 friendship points.
To start a conversation, you will need energy points. One stage of communication usually starts with 2 energy points each time, but as your friendship with the NPC increases, the amount of energy you have to spend will also increase. You can see how much energy is needed for communication and the total amount of your energy at the moment. For example, in the image above (highlighted with a red box in the screenshot above), you can see that the current communication cost is 20 energy points, and I have 218 energy points that I can use.
In addition, you will also need knowledge so that you have topics to talk about with NPCs. Knowledge is obtained during various actions in the game, it can be communication with other NPCs, killing monsters, completing quests, exploring new areas, etc. Each NPC has a specific area of expertise they like to talk about, and talking to them will become available to you if you meet certain requirements. In the window on the left (circled in blue in the screenshot above), you will see the total amount of knowledge you currently have and how much you need to unlock to communicate.

Start of communication

Interact with the NPC by pressing "R", then press "Communicate" to open the conversation interface.
In the conversation interface, you will see the NPC zodiac sign with box circles for each knowledge and lines connecting them. This is the order in which you will place each knowledge. The knowledge you can choose will be shown in the lower right corner. Right click on knowledge to add it to the dialog.
Once you have filled all the available knowledge slots, you can press the button at the bottom to start a dialogue. When the dialogue is completed, you will receive a positive or negative response from the NPC, which will be depicted as happy or sad emoticons. At the top of the screen, you will also be given a goal, what you need to do in order to get friendship points with the NPC. Each goal is backed up in detail with advice on what to do to get the desired effect.

Continue the conversation or end?
When the conversation is over and you have successfully reached the goal, you will have the option to either continue the conversation or end it.
If you decide to complete, you will receive the accumulated amount of friendship points that you scored during the dialogue. If you choose to continue, you can continue the conversation without spending Energy Points, but if you don't reach the next goal, you will lose everything you've gained from all the steps in that conversation. You can continue to talk 2 more times, making a total of 3 conversations for one amount of energy points.

Percentage level and interest

When you start a conversation with an NPC, their level of interest will be shown in the window on the left. The interest of an NPC may change every time you start a conversation, but if you decide to continue the conversation, it will remain the same. If the interest is very high it can make it difficult to get friendship points with the NPC.
When you hover over knowledge (topic icons at the bottom), you can also see that it also has an interest. The interest of knowledge is stable and does not change. The knowledge effect is calculated by dividing the percentage level of knowledge by the percentage level of the NPS. The knowledge effect is the percentage of receiving a positive response in a conversation. If the percentage level of the NPS is below the interest level of the knowledge, you will always get a positive response when using this knowledge.

In the image below, for example:
Lara has an interest of 22
Knowledge of Caresto Fonti - interest 25
Knowledge of Caresto Fonti effect interest: 25x100/22 = 100% (it goes higher there, but 100% is the maximum).

This means that there is a 100% chance that you will get a positive reaction when using this knowledge in a conversation.
It is also important to note that the knowledge effect can affect the next knowledge in the chain. If you manage to get a positive reaction, you may have a higher chance of getting the next knowledge and vice versa.

Sympathy and interest

When you start a conversation with an NPC, their amount of sympathy is displayed in the window on the left. The sympathy of the NPC can also change every time you start a dialogue, but if you decide to continue the conversation, it will remain the same. If sympathy is very low, then it can make it difficult to get friendship points with this NPC.
When you hover over a knowledge, you can also see the liking of the knowledge. The sympathy of knowledge is always stable and does not change. Percentages are calculated by subtracting the NPC's liking from the knowledge's liking. Percentages affect your Max/Accumulated sympathy during a conversation, and the higher these percentages are, the more sympathy you collect at the end of the dialogue.
You will only get interest if you get a positive response from NPCs!
In the image above, for example:
Lara has sympathy 7
Knowledge of Caresto Fonti - liking 23 ~ 26
Caresto Fonti's Sympathy: (23 ~ 26) - 7 = (16 ~ 19)
This means that if you get a positive reaction for this knowledge, you will receive a random number of points from 16 to 19.

Maximum and accumulated levels of sympathy

The maximum liking level is calculated by summing up the interest you get from each knowledge. Every time knowledge is discussed, maximum level sympathy will be recalculated and used to calculate the level of accumulated liking.
The maximum level of sympathy can also be reset if you receive a negative response from knowledge.
It is also important to note that the maximum level of sympathy and the level of accumulated sympathy are only displayed when the next knowledge is discussed.

Goals of the conversation

Every time you start a conversation with an NPC, you need to reach the goal that is indicated at the top of the screen. In order to complete this task, you must get the exact number of knowledge reactions required during the conversation. Depending on how the goal is phrased, you may also need to generate interest consistently over a certain number of times.
Basic goals:
Talk to the NPS - you need to get any reactions to knowledge, the best option is to choose knowledge with a high interest rate;
Arouse interest 5 times in a row - you need to get positive reactions to knowledge 5 times in a row;
Failing an attempt to arouse interest 5 times in a row - you need to get negative reactions to knowledge 5 times in a row;
Raise the maximum sympathy parameter to 23 - you need to get a minimum of maximum sympathy of 23.
Raise the accumulated sympathy parameter to 23 - you need to get a minimum of accumulated sympathy of 23.

Combo effects

Combined effects can be created between knowledge to earn additional interest or sympathy points, which in turn will increase your maximum/accumulated sympathy level. The wording can be confusing, but once you start to understand it, you can easily use them.
Some lore will have a description of the combo effect when you hover over it. For example, Lara's knowledge: "After 3 turns, the next 3 knowledges gain +5 to the Sympathy parameter." This means that it will combine with knowledge that is placed 3 turns after it. It will increase the percentage level of knowledge by 5, and will also increase the level of sympathy of the next three knowledge after that. Some knowledge may not have combo effects.
A combo link is displayed between knowledge with a glowing blue line, and you can view the effects by hovering over the knowledge that triggers the link. Effects are displayed in blue.

NPC Communication Function - Greeting

There are cases when, for some reason, it is not possible to make friends with an NPC, or you need a very small amount of friendship points with this NPC, then you can use the Greeting function or F5. This method will consume 3 energy points, and give 3 friendship points, respectively, this fast way get a small amount of friendship.

Function of communication with the NPC - Theft

You can commit a theft and receive some random item from the NPC, but if the theft fails, your friendship with this NPC will decrease and may go into negative. In addition, during the commission of the theft, guards may come running.

Use of friendship

In shops, NPCs may have some items that can be purchased by gaining the required amount of friendship. Once you have the required number of friendship points, you can buy these items at the indicated price. When buying a product, friendship points with this NPC will also be spent. If the NPC does not have a friendship store, then they can offer you a rare item, new quest, new knowledge, buff or some valuable information.

Additional Tips
Leveling a node makes it easier to communicate with NPCs in that area. In addition, if you have the same zodiac sign that was given to you at the start of the game, it will be easier for you to communicate with this NPC by 10%.
To facilitate the dialogue with the NPS, you can use various additional tools:
Buff of the havens of Shakatu, Merkes, Tallia, Ismail, Kilto: increase in friendship points + 10%.
Cooking:
Salted fish, sour pickled fish - friendship points + 5%
Chicken Pie, Big Chicken Pie - Amity Points +5%
Alchemy:
Friendship Potion - Friendship Points +20%
Strong Friendship Potion - Friendship Points +30%
Calpheon noble costume - friendship points + 15%

It's no secret that mini-games become an integral part of any good game. After all, such entertainment that appears in the familiar or new world for us always arouses interest, especially if they are not as simple as they seem at first glance, and even beneficial for the player. One of these mini-games, which, at one time, caused a lot of bewilderment among players in all CBT and OBT of the Korean Black versions Desert Online - minigame Communication with NPCs.

If you've followed the game even a little, then you know that each character and NPC has a constellation under which he was born. This constellation is the foundation of this mini-game.

What needs to be done in it? Everything is quite simple, and if you follow the game prompts, then it’s completely elementary. That is why I decided to write this guide.

So, let's get to the point. Each character has a list of knowledge that you can talk to them about. Games will be most effective when the amount of knowledge required is maximum.

The mini-game allows you to "make friends" with a character and get bonuses from him, for example:
Knowledge
Quests
Friendship Store
Gain or talk

Any of these options can be extremely useful for you. Hidden quests can give you extra influence and skill points, knowledge can give you extra energy, and you can buy something interesting in the friendship shops.

Now let's go directly to the game. It can be started by clicking on the Communicate button when talking to an NPC.

Below is knowledge about the NPCs he knows, namely the inhabitants of Velia, because he is the headman of this town. In the center is a constellation, on which you need to place knowledge in turn, achieving the best effect or task indicated above.

There are several types of tasks:
1. Just talk to the character. In this case, the location of knowledge in the constellation is not important. But still, it is better to try to arouse the greatest interest due to their correct location.
2. Arouse interest N-th number of times. Here we need to evoke a positive outcome when communicating about each knowledge.
3. Fail interest N-th number of times. Here everything is completely opposite - we have to disappoint our NPC in the conversation.
4. Accumulate N-th amount of sympathy. It is necessary to build a chain of knowledge in such a way as to get the greatest amount of sympathy with positive interest.
5. Raise the maximum sympathy to the Nth amount. Here - similarly to the previous version, only the calculation of the value is based on the effect of knowledge, and not its property.

Now, to clarify all of the above, consider the characteristics of NPCs and knowledge.

NPCs and knowledge have 2 characteristics: interest and liking, which affect the positive or negative outcomes in the mini-game.

In order to interest the NPC in communication, you need to set the knowledge so that the interest is equal to or higher than that of him. For knowledge, next to the value of interest, the percentage of success is indicated in parentheses.

Sympathy is the same system, only in the case of it we are already guided by two parameters - we need to arouse positive interest and at the same time use knowledge with higher sympathy. After all, there is knowledge with high interest, but low sympathy. Sometimes you have to take risks and choose knowledge that does not have a 100% chance of being interesting in order to gain the desired sympathy value.

In such cases, knowledge can help you, which give some bonuses to the knowledge that follows them, for example, + to interest or sympathy, which just can help achieve your goal.

Upon successful completion of the task, you are faced with a choice. You can score more points without having to spend more energy on the mini-game, but at the risk of losing the accumulated energy later. Or you can take back what you got for winning. You can continue the game 2 times, and in fact, this is the most effective way. It's better to be able to get 80-100+ friendship points than to lose 10-15 in the first game.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention. The mini-game requires energy points, so you won't be able to play it endlessly, achieving high values. The higher you climb to your cherished goal, the more expensive the game will be. If at the beginning the game costs 2 energy, then approaching 1000 friendship points, it requires 10 energy. And this is quite a lot, given the possibility of losing in the first round.

That seems to be all. Leave questions and comments in the comments.

Chatting with NPCs is one way to build friendships with them. In addition to communication, relationships can be improved by simple greetings. At a certain level of relationship, NPCs provide the player with new opportunities.

To greet an NPC, approach them and press F1. You will have to spend a little energy on a greeting, but this way you can quickly increase the level of relations. For 3 energy points you will get 3 friendship points. If the NPC sells any items, some of them may be unavailable (marked in gray) at a low relationship level. The player needs to build relationships with each NPC individually. As an example, consider Lawrence Murray, a stable keeper in the city of Velia. You can quickly buy low-level horse equipment from him, because. the mini-game to communicate with him is quite simple and does not require much knowledge.

1. Basics

To start a conversation, you need 10 units. energy and some knowledge about the city or village. The more knowledge you have, the more choice of NPCs to discuss.

For more information about knowledge, see the Knowledge System Guide.

Approach the desired NPC, press R and select Socialize. The lower left corner of the window displays the current level of relations with this NPC. In the center of the screen, an indicator of your interlocutor's interest in other residents of the city with whom you have already met is displayed. To expand the range of topics, you need to acquire additional knowledge.

In the communication interface, you can see a diagram with circles and lines connecting them. Lines indicate the order in which topics are discussed (NIP). The list of available themes is displayed in the lower right corner of the screen. Right-click on the portraits to add them to the discussion, and then click the Start button. You have 3 attempts.

Each topic is of particular interest to your interlocutor. The interest indicator is displayed when you hover over the portrait of the NPC in question. The amount of friendship points you get for a mini-game depends on the indicator of interest that you arouse in the interlocutor. When discussing a particular topic, you can see the result in the form of a happy or sad emoticon. If the topic has not aroused interest, you will not receive friendship points. In addition to the Interest Score, each topic has a Performance Score (the number of Friendship Points you typically get when discussing). In other words, for each topic, the interest rate is determined by the percentage of successful discussions.

The target of the dialog is displayed at the top of the screen. If you fail to complete the goal, you lose friendship points, and the dialogue closes. If the goal has been reached, you can close the story exchange window and get the points you are due, or continue the dialogue at the risk of losing everything that was previously earned.

2. Types of goals for assignments

Generate interest N times in a row

To complete this task, you need to interest the interlocutor a sufficient number of times. The exact amount depends on the wording of the task. For example, if the goal is to generate interest twice in a row, we need to put the topics in the right order, i.e. two portraits of NPCs with a high interest score must be placed side by side. In this example, the task is to generate interest four times in a row, so we chose topics with a high interest score. So, Marcella with an interest score of 41 gives a 100% chance of success.

To complete this task, you must cause a negative reaction from the interlocutor. If successful, you will not receive friendship points, but you will be able to continue the mini-game without having to spend 10 additional energy points. To complete this type of task, choose topics that are not interesting to your interlocutor. In this example, the NPC Pulvio was chosen with an interest score of 3 and a success rate of 9%.

The goal of this game is to accumulate as many sympathy points as possible. Choose an NPC that your interlocutor likes. For such a task, you will receive some friendship points and will be able to continue the mini-game.

To complete this task, you need to win the sympathy of the interlocutor. In this example, it is required to score at least 38 points of maximum sympathy. Picking the topic, we see that Zelda's Like Score is 32-37, however, the Performance Score tells us that this topic hasn't earned many Max Like Points before, so another topic with a higher chance of success should be chosen.

Chatting with an interlocutor different topics, we managed to score 51 sympathy points and complete the task.

This goal means that you can talk about anything. In order to get as many friendship points as possible, choose interesting topics that are related to each other.

Related topics cause additional interest and bring additional sympathy points. Relationships between topics are indicated by glowing lines. Each topic has an Influence on Other Knowledge tooltip that allows you to make connections between topics. There are topics that cannot be linked. In the screenshot, Santo Manzi's tooltip reads: "After turn 2, knowledge gains +3 liking on turn 4." Despite the shortcomings of the translation, it can be understood that this topic must be placed in the second slot in order to get +3 liking for the topic in the fourth slot. In addition, the screenshot shows that the three themes are connected (glowing lines). When hovering over a topic, you can see the like bonus from each link. In this example, this bonus is 4 (blue text "+4").

Some NPC stores have items that require a certain level of relationship to purchase. By improving your attitude, you will be able to purchase these items at the advertised price. When purchasing items, friendship points are deducted from the total. If the NPC doesn't have a shop, they may give you a rare item, quest, or knowledge when their attitude improves. As you can see from the screenshot, after improving the attitude, you can buy 3 new items from the NPC that were not available before, namely: Light Leather Saddle, Steel Horseshoes and Light Leather Stirrup. Under each item, the required relationship level is displayed. To purchase each item, you will have to spend 100 friendship points. The current number of friendship points is indicated in the lower left corner of the screen.

Without buffs - like without hands. Of course, you will kill mobs, but sluggishly and without a spark. And, as it turns out, you can temporarily strengthen your character in the BDO game not only with food or alchemy, but also by talking to certain NPCs. If they treat you well, they are ready to provide you with all sorts of useful buffs.

The general principle of using this service is that first you need to raise your friendship with this NPC to certain values. But then you can constantly receive buffs from him - this is not a friendship store that constantly flies after a purchase. True, for the gain you will need to give a certain amount of energy each time.

Important point: All of these buffs are interchangeable, so choose carefully.

I've grouped buffing NPCs by city as it helps a lot with leveling. So let's go!

Country: Balenos

Location: West Guard Camp

1. NPC: Constant

Amplify him to 151 and for 5 Energy he will buff you by +2 Attack Power for 30 minutes.

2. NPC: Peynia Tool Merchant

Requires 201 friendships. For 5 energy you get +100 HP for 30 minutes.

Location: City of Velia

1. NPC: Owner of the Crescent Moon Inn Ayselyn Bartali

You have to be friends with the innkeeper. And for 101 friendship, she will increase your damage against people by +1 for half an hour. It will cost you 5 energy.

2. NPC: Alchemist Alustin

Increases HP by +100 for 30 minutes. You will need to load it up to 151 and give 5 energy.

3. NPC: Alchemist Clorins

And here everything is free, that is, "dad" (c) Owl. This cute girl with a friendship level of 31 and above is ready to instantly cure you to full HP.

4. NPC: Alchemist Eileen

For 5 energy, increases your stamina by 100 points. But first, earn 101 friendships.

Country: Serendia

Location: Heidel

1st NPC: Carolina

The maid of the ruler of the city gives one of the most useful combat buffs: +10% damage on a critical hit for half an hour. To do this, it needs to be loaded with only 51. But the cost is quite high - 25 energy.

2nd NPC: Trainer Cruhorn Wormsbane

Armor Gnom gives +2 damage for 30 minutes. True, for this you need to be friends with him as much as 851 and pay 25 energy.

3. NPC: Priest Eil

Also a good buff: +1% to crit chance for half an hour. True, making Eil friends up to 501 is not an easy task, and the cost of the buff is as much as 35 energy. In addition, he goes to sleep at night, that's why I don't give a screen.

Location: Glish

1. NPC: Alchemist Breharo

Breharo's intractability in terms of building friendships is legendary. But, if you still earned 301 points from him, then for 25 energy he is ready to increase your damage resistance by +1 for 30 minutes.

2nd NPC: Elion Temple Adept Lionel Richie

Gives +2 to attack for half an hour. First, you need to load it up to 501. And this buff will cost you 35 energy.

3. NPC: Trainer Cheysar

If you don't bother to befriend him by 1001, then for 25 energy you can increase your HP by +100 for 30 minutes. Doubtful, frankly speaking, pleasure. I didn’t have enough perseverance to rub his bump to the required values.

Country: Calpheon

Nope... Don't count. The local NPCs are sure that you are already powerful enough, so for additional buffs - only to the auction :)

P.S. Well, if you do not want to "feed" the developers, you can use our exchange, where you can be both a buyer and a seller, selling and buying game values.
